too good to resist

So, apparently three potholders was not enough to satisfy my love of these lovely cool solids together. The binding still isn't sewn on to the potholders, but rather than finish them, I decided to play some more this weekend. I made more squares like before, and then tried to decide on a layout for a lap quilt.

Decisions, decisions. Should I keep them all oriented the same way:

or rotate half the blocks 90 degrees?
While the second layout is visually interesting, it does beg the question of why I went to the trouble of cutting the squares into diamonds and sewing them back together again, when I could have just left them alone and set them on point instead. So, I'll keep that in mind for another day. The first layout won in the end. Now I have another quilt top, and some potholders that still aren't quite done...
